6 Things To Research Before You Start Your Virtual Assistant Business

So where do you start? How can you launch your Virtual Assistant business (or coaching or consulting business) and ensure that you are thinking through everything?  How can you be sure to get yourself prepared for the road ahead? There are some areas to research so that you are fully prepared to launch your Virtual Assistant business in the most effective way possible.   It takes some time and effort on your part, but this is how to become an informed business owner.
The more research that you put in, the more that you know what to get yourself ready for. This helps you to be proactive and stay ahead of any common issues.
It helps you to develop marketing efforts that are successful in building an ideal client base. Even if you have never done anything like this before, once you begin researching things you will find that you get into a groove and make the most out of it.

Information to Research Before You Start Your Virtual Assistant Business

1. Who your greatest competition is: You absolutely need to know who your competition is. It may not be a fact that you like to face, but everyone has some sort of competition. Search Google for other virtual assistant businesses (or coaching or consulting businesses) in your niche area. Take a look at what makes their business offers, what value they provide and what doesn’t work so well for them on their site. Consider why they are your competition and what you can do better. Do you offer better value; do you have more experience? This knowledge will help you be prepared and to offer a service that is better and offers greater value.

2. What the current marketplace is like: You have to know what kind of demand there is for your services. Look at the marketplace and understand the current breakdown. How many others are out there offering something similar to what you plan to (again who are your competitors)? Where can customers get this need fulfilled? What rates are your competitors charging? For help in determining your ideal bill rate get the Services Pricing Calculator . Knowing the current marketplace can help you figure out how to take a piece of the pie in the long run.  How much of the pie do you want?

3. Who your true target audience is: You need to know who you are trying to sell your VA, consulting or coaching services to. You need to define your niche client. Who are they and what makes them interested in your services? The most successful businesses offer solutions to their ideal clients’ problems. You want to understand how they think and what makes them your target audience in the first place. This can help to drive your marketing plan and really help you to get to know your future ideal customer too.

4. The best place to advertise your services: It may be that getting a website built is a great way to advertise. It may be that Facebook ads are going to work better. It may be something much more simple, but there is bound to be some place that will effectively reach the right people (it is most likely a website). Start small and you can always build your efforts up in this capacity, but having the right place to start advertising and demonstrating your expertise is a wonderful thing.

5. How to reach your demographic: How can you get into their mindset? How can you reach them in the best spots? How can you be sure that your message is heard by the right people? Take the time to see where your target audience spends their time and their money. What does your ideal client need help with? Where do they spend their time? Look on social media and websites that reach them and understand what they are like so that you know how to best reach them.

6. What sort of costs might be involved in early marketing efforts: Even if you only have limited funds to work with, you want to go in with a good understanding of how much you are spending. This is likely to vary over time as you get up and running, but you need a starting point. This may just cover overhead costs or initial expenses, but you know how to plan for it.

You might want to be a bit more conservative until you get a real feel for your cash flow and the types of expenses that you can anticipate. This is a work in progress, but you certainly need to research typical business expenses so that you know how to progress.
There is so much to think about when you are starting a business, and these are amongst the most important areas. If you can think through these areas and really spend time doing your research, then you are going to be much more successful in the long run. Starting your Virtual Assistant business will be more smooth and you will ultimately be more prepared and successful too.
